As part of its ‘The Responsible Choice (TRC)’ initiative Frontier has just completed a busy and successful Mental Health Awareness Week (#MHAW17).

The cash has been counted and the total raised for the charity Farming Help by the Frontier team is an impressive £5,602.30.

Most of this money was raised by Frontier colleagues themselves through a week-long series of fund raising events. These were organised with great energy by Frontier’s Responsible Choice group and its regional coordinators and raised an incredible £4,602.30.  That’s almost £5 for each of the 1,000 people who work at Frontier.

The company also committed to donate a penny for every tonne of grain traded during the week. Frontier traded 98,933 tonnes of grain and the donation was rounded up to £1,000, bringing the overall amount raised to £5,602.30.

Sharon Kennett, chair of The Responsible Choice steering group said: “We were delighted to support Mental Health Awareness Week, this initiative really struck a chord with our people and their support and engagement has been fantastic.

“It was certainly a diverse week with everyone at Frontier getting involved.  We saw everything from one of our directors having his head shaved for charity, to someone completing a 22.47 mile sponsored walk before starting their working day and even one brave man who had his back waxed for the cause - ouch! We also had some of the more traditional and enjoyable events such as office bake sales and raffles.

“We had a lot of fun and we’re very proud of what our people achieved and their generosity. However, the ‘Surviving or Thriving?’ message behind MHAW17 was not lost on us either.  We raised awareness of mental health issues, the difference between surviving and thriving and the support that’s available to everyone in agriculture. That was always the main purpose of this initiative for us and it’s an ongoing commitment.”

Mental Health Awareness Week comes shortly after Frontier announced that it is working alongside the charity, Farming Help on a range of fundraising and awareness projects this year. Money raised from all events and pledges will be split among the Farming Help charities.

This is part of Frontier’s The Responsible Choice (TRC) sustainability and responsibility initiative.  People is one of the pillars of TRC and MHAW17 helped to draw attention to issues around good mental health, particularly in agriculture, and to the help available for farmers and their families from Farming Help.
