Shaun Watson who farms in Northumberland, has been named as Farmers Weekly's 2017 'Arable Farmer of the Year'.

Arable Farmer of the Year, sponsored by Frontier Agriculture, was one of 15 annual Farmers Weekly Awards presented at a celebration event at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London last night.

Charlie Whitmarsh, crop production director for Frontier Agriculture, presented Mr Watson with his award and said: "Congratulations to Shaun on this award. A common theme among the finalists this year was the work they are doing to create a sustainable farm business through expertise and relationship building. We were particularly impressed by this with Shaun and by his enthusiasm and energy.”

The Farmers Weekly Awards celebrate the very best of British farming by recognising and rewarding innovation, hard work and passion for agriculture. Awards were presented spanning the full breadth of the farming industry; from contractor to farm adviser; sheep to arable and diversification to dairy.
