PremierCrop Sulphur

PremierCrop Sulphur is a true granular compound for grass and maize silage, and spring sown arable crops. It’s for use for crops grown on soils low in phosphorous and potassium, requiring sulphur.Sulphur plays a vital role in the healthy growth of many kinds of crops.

Today, sulphur is considered almost as important to healthy crops as nitrogen. It’s an essential part of photosynthesis and the formation of acids, enzymes and plant proteins. Just as importantly, sulphur affects the taste of your products. It should come as no surprise that sulphur deficiency can therefore cause serious damage to your crops and leave you with a sub-par yield. Sulphur deficiency can lead to chlorosis and stunted growth.

The crops most at risk of sulphur deficiency include:

  • Cereals
  • Oilseed rape
  • Grass.

Furthermore, sulphur deficiency is most present in lighter soils. Sandy, loamy and course silty soils are susceptible.

The benefits of using PremierCrop

  • Applying all four key nutrients (potassium, phosphorous, sulphur, and nitrogen) together in the spring reduces workload and application costs
  • Nutrients are provided in-season when the crop uses them most which results in better yields and crop quality
  • PremierCrop contains ammonium nitrate. According to the government, ammonium nitrate is the most efficient nitrogen source and the ‘best option for the environment and farming’
  • Sulphur is applied in sulphate form, which makes it readily available for crop uptake
  • Crops can only take up phosphorous in solution form; the phosphate in PremierCrop is 96% water soluble
  • As a true granular compound, PremierCrop guarantees even application of nutrients across the whole spreader bout width, optimising nutrient use efficiency and crop response.

Product description

  • Ammonium nitrate is the most efficient and predictable form of nitrogen for UK farmers.
  • Ammonium sulphate offers a readily available source of sulphur to the growing crop.
  • Water soluble phosphate provides rapid uptake to support root development and plant growth.
  • A true granular compound ensures even and accurate spread of all nutrients across the crop.
  • Bulk density typical range 900-1000 kg/m3, average 960 kg/m3.
  • The Carbon Footprint for PremierCrop Sulphur is 5.0kg CO2e per kg nitrogen.

Application Information

Grassland For spring application on first cut silage, apply 400-600kg/ha. For higher rates, split the dressing evenly with four weeks between applications. In conjunction with slurry, PremierCrop Sulphur is particularly useful for more high-input, high-output silage systems that remove a lot of phosphorous and potassium in the crop. PremierCrop Sulphur can be used after manures and pre-drilling for spring grassland reseeds, applied at a rate of 250kg/ha. With sulphur, increases in DM yield of 25% can be achieved on light and medium soils, alongside increases of 4% in protein and 5% in sugar contents to improve grass quality and palatability.
Maize If soil phosphorous index is no more than 3, then 300-500kg/ ha of PremierCrop Sulphur can be applied at drilling to supply some available phosphorous to encourage establishment and early growth. CF Fertilisers and Maize Growers Association trials show that profitable responses in yield can be achieved with 20-40kg SO3 /ha.
Arable As a seedbed dressing for spring sown cereals and oilseed rape at 350-400kg/ ha., PremierCrop Sulphur can also be used as a top dressing treatment for winter cereals where phosphorous and potassium is required in the spring.
