Arable-Farmer-Guy-Shelby-mainGuy Shelby who farms in Skirlaugh, East Yorkshire, has been named as Farmers Weekly's 'Arable Farmer of the Year'.

Arable Farmer of the Year, sponsored by Frontier Agriculture, was one of 17 annual Farmers Weekly Awards presented at a celebration event at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London last night.

Charlie Whitmarsh, crop production director for Frontier Agriculture, presented Mr Shelby with his award and said: "We're proud to support the Arable Farmer of the Year award again this year and we're delighted for Guy. I had the privilege of joining the judges when they visited the shortlisted farms. All were impressive but Guy is a very deserving winner. He is optimistic, flexible, innovative, knowledgeable and results oriented - all attributes that are essential for sustainable crop production success in our current climate."

The Farmers Weekly Awards celebrate the very best of British farming by recognising and rewarding innovation, hard work and passion for agriculture. The theme for this year's awards, 'working together, stronger together', highlighted collaboration between farmers and the industry to spread best practice and inspire others.

Judges were particularly impressed by Guy's enthusiasm, openness to new ideas and management of black-grass.
